Each November COSGA recruits hosts to help with the conference. The Hosts function as any other member of the COSGA committee but they are not placed on a sub-committee. They are expected to attend all COSGA meetings in the spring semester and be present at the conference. Approximately 50 hosts are accepted.
What is COSGA?
The Conference on Student Government Associations (COSGA) is a conference held each spring at A&M that focuses on the needs of student leaders, more specifically those of student government. COSGA brings about 500 student leaders from over 110 colleges and universities across the nation to share ideas, problems, and solutions, in order to improve their respective campuses. COSGA is a committee within the Student Government Association at Texas A&M.
What do you do as a COSGA Host?Hosts are added to COSGA for the spring semester, and supplement the COSGA committee. At the conference, hosts’ roles are identical to those of committee members and include filling various shifts at the four day conference (such as assisting in workshops, facilitating roundtables, and driving delegates to each day’s programming activities). Being a COSGA Host is a very rewarding experience and allows the participant to gain greater insight into the workings of the COSGA conference.
Do I have to let the delegates live with me?
Not at all. The delegates stay in various hotels around town. The official hotel for the conference is the Hilton where several of our events, such as Casino night, will take place.
Do I have to be a Student Government expert to apply?
NO! No prior knowledge of student government is required. We will teach you everything you need to know and we will provide you with a cheat sheet containing Student Government facts for the conference.
But I have to drive them around in my car, right?
No. Part of your role as a host is driving the delegates, but NOT in your own car. You will be driving the delegates in 16 passenger University vans. Don’t worry! Before the conference, we will train you on how to properly drive these vehicles.
The delegates are anywhere from 18-22 years old (freshmen through seniors in college). They will come from all over the nation with many different backgrounds – but they all share a passion for impacting their campuses.
How big is this time commitment?Until the actual conference, you will be required to attend our weekly Wednesday night meetings from 5:45 to 6:45. There is also a mandatory host retreat and an all committee/host retreat the weekend before the actual conference. During the conference, each host will sign up for shifts and are encouraged to spend as much time as possible at the conference getting to know the delegates.

COSGA sounds kinda stuffy.
COSGA is ANYTHING but stuffy. Although we run a very professional conference, we have fun along every step of the way. From fabulous videos to weekly socials– we make everything we do exciting, and entertaining for not only ourselves, but the delegates as well.
