What do I actually DO at the conference?
The roles of committee members and hosts are identical at the conference. Responsibilities include filling various shifts over the four days. These shifts range from introducing workshops and facilitating roundtables to driving delegates to each day’s programming activities and attending night lives.
I don’t know anything about Student Government, is that a problem? Not at all. Anything you need to know about SGA, we will teach you.
Where do the delegates stay during the conference?
The delegates stay in various hotels around town. The official hotel for the conference is the Hilton where several of our events, such as Casino night, will take place.
How are the delegates transported around town?
Part of your role as a COSGA member is driving the delegates, but NOT in your own car. Before the conference, we will train you to drive white 16-passenger University vans.
How big is this time commitment? For committee members – You will be required to attend the weekly Wednesday night meetings from 5:45-6:45 during the fall and spring. There will also be dinner socials after every meeting. Committee members will also be present for a retreat in the fall and also a refresher retreat right before the conference. For Hosts – You must attend the weekly meeting beginning in November. There will also be a host retreat in the Spring and the refresher retreat before the conference. During Conference – Hosts and committee members will be required to sign up for a certain number of shifts and are encouraged to spend as much time at the conference, getting to know delegates, as possible.
Who are the delegates?
The delegates are anywhere from 18-22 years old (freshmen through seniors in college). They will come from all over the nation with many different backgrounds – but they all share a passion for impacting their campuses.
